Creative Media Production
Provisional Qualification: Level 3 Extended Certificate
The proposed course title, awarding organisation, content and assessment arrangements are provisional and may be subject to change before the start of the course.
Create ideas. Build brands. Produce for a digital world.
Creative Media Production is for students who want to understand how digital content captures attention, communicates ideas and connects with audiences. From social media campaigns and digital advertising to branding, graphics, websites and interactive content, the course explores the creative thinking and production skills behind the media we encounter every day.
At BOA Digital, Creative Media Production sits naturally within our specialist digital environment. You'll develop your ability to communicate through digital platforms, visual design and interactive media, while gaining experience of the creative processes, technologies and professional expectations that shape today's digital and creative industries.
What will I study?
The proposed programme focuses on the development and production of digital media products. You'll explore how audiences interact with media, how organisations communicate through different platforms and how creative decisions involving imagery, typography, layout, branding and interactivity influence the way a message is received.
Units and projects may involve areas such as digital graphic design, website and interactive media, social media content, digital advertising, branding, photography, image manipulation and digital publishing. You'll learn how to research an audience, respond to a creative brief, generate and develop ideas, plan a product and use appropriate digital tools to turn your ideas into professional outcomes.
You might, for example, develop the visual identity for a new brand, design digital advertising for a campaign, produce social media assets for an organisation, create an interactive digital product or develop graphics and content for an online audience. This means thinking beyond simply making something look good: you'll need to understand who it is for, what it needs to achieve and why your creative decisions are effective.
Creative media in a digital world
The way organisations communicate has changed dramatically. Businesses, charities, public organisations, influencers and global brands all compete for attention across websites, apps, social platforms and other digital spaces. This creates demand for people who can combine creativity with an understanding of audiences, technology and communication.
You'll explore this relationship throughout the course, considering how digital media products are created for different platforms and purposes. You'll also develop an awareness of how emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence and new digital creative tools, are changing the way media content is conceived and produced, while considering the importance of originality, copyright, authenticity and responsible use.
How will I study?
Creative Media Production is practical and project-focused. You'll work individually and collaboratively on creative briefs, developing concepts, experimenting with digital techniques and producing finished media products. Projects take you through a professional-style creative process: researching, generating ideas, planning, designing, producing, testing and refining.
Independent study gives you opportunities to develop your work beyond lessons, investigate existing digital media, experiment with software and refine your ideas. Over time, this helps you develop a portfolio of digital creative work that demonstrates not only technical ability, but your creativity, decision-making and ability to respond effectively to a brief.
How will the course be assessed?
The course combines assessed units with a strong emphasis on practical projects and digital outcomes, alongside evidence showing how you research, plan, develop, review and refine your work.
Assessment therefore isn't simply about the finished product. The creative journey matters too – demonstrating how you respond to a brief, make informed decisions, solve problems and improve your work.
Where could Creative Media Production take me?
Creative Media Production can support progression into areas such as digital content creation, graphic design, web and interactive design, social media, digital marketing, advertising, branding, UX/UI, digital publishing and creative communications.
It also provides a strong foundation for university, higher and degree apprenticeships or specialist training in the creative and digital industries. The combination of creative thinking, digital production, communication and audience awareness is increasingly valuable to organisations far beyond the traditional media sector.
You don't simply learn how to use creative software. You learn how to take an idea, understand an audience and turn it into a purposeful digital product.
