Extended Project Qualification (EPQ)

The Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) is a Level 3 qualification that gives students the opportunity to explore a topic they are passionate about through independent research and project work. At BOA Digital Sixth Form, students will be encouraged to connect their EPQ to the digital world, exploring areas such as Artificial Intelligence, cyber security, software development, gaming, digital media, emerging technologies or the ethical impact of technology.

Projects could take the form of an extended research project or, where appropriate, the development of a practical artefact supported by research and evaluation. The EPQ develops highly valuable skills in research, critical thinking, project management, problem-solving and presentation, providing excellent preparation for university, higher apprenticeships and careers in the digital industries. It is worth up to 28 UCAS points and provides students with an opportunity to demonstrate their interests and expertise beyond their main programme of study.

Higher Project Qualification (HPQ)

The Higher Project Qualification (HPQ) is a Level 2 qualification that gives students the opportunity to explore a topic that interests them through independent research and project work. At BOA Digital Sixth Form, students will be encouraged to connect their HPQ to the digital world, exploring areas such as Artificial Intelligence, cyber security, gaming, coding, digital media, social media or emerging technologies. Students plan and manage their own project, research their chosen area and produce either a written report or a practical outcome supported by evidence and evaluation.

The HPQ develops valuable skills in research, critical thinking, organisation, problem-solving and presentation, while building the confidence and independence needed to progress successfully to Level 3 study. It would therefore be particularly well suited to students on our Foundation pathway, allowing them to demonstrate their digital interests and develop the academic and project skills needed for their next steps.
