The Digital Hybrid Pathway at BOA Digital gives you the flexibility to select subjects from both our Digital Technical and Digital Design pathways, creating a programme that reflects your individual strengths, interests and ambitions. This mix of the two pathways is built directly into our proposed Sixth Form curriculum. 

Depending on your entry profile and chosen programme, this could mean combining subjects such as Computer Science, Mathematics or Physics with English Literature, History, Creative Digital Media Production, Esports or Digital Games Production.

The Hybrid Pathway recognises that your interests might not fit neatly into one category. You might enjoy coding but also want to design digital experiences. You might be fascinated by games but want to understand the computer science behind them. Or you might enjoy History and research alongside a practical digital subject.

  Computer Science could develop your programming and computational thinking, while Digital Games Production allows you to explore areas such as game design, scripting, 3D modelling and testing.

• Interested in technology and communication?
  Computer Science alongside Creative Digital Media can combine an understanding of digital technology with the ability to develop content and communicate with different audiences.

• Interested in games, data and competitive performance?
  Mathematics can develop your analytical thinking while Esports provides opportunities to explore performance, strategy, enterprise and the wider esports industry.

• Interested in research and the digital world?
  History or English Literature can develop your ability to analyse evidence, question information and communicate complex ideas, while a digital qualification gives you opportunities to apply different skills in practical contexts.

Where technology meets creativity

Modern digital careers increasingly require combinations of skills. A games developer might need to understand code, mathematics, visual design and player behaviour. A digital content producer may work with AI tools, data and emerging technologies alongside traditional creative skills. Someone working in esports might combine performance analysis, technology, business and communication.

Even subjects that may initially appear less digital can contribute. History develops research, source evaluation and argument. These are examples rather than fixed combinations. Your actual programme would depend on your GCSE results, individual subject entry requirements and the structure of the Sixth Form timetable. The curriculum currently sets different entry thresholds for subjects including Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, English Literature and History.

Your technical subjects can strengthen logical thinking, programming, mathematical reasoning, analysis and problem-solving. Depending on the subjects you choose, you might progress towards areas such as Computer Science, Games Development, Creative Technology, Digital Media, Data, Esports, Digital Marketing, Interactive Media, Communications or other creative and technology-related disciplines.

You could continue to university, progress to a higher or degree apprenticeship, or move towards further specialist training and employment.

Most importantly, the pathway gives you the flexibility to explore more than one interest while building a coherent Sixth Form programme around where you might want to go next.
